Coming Full Circle: Coffee, Memories, and the Apple Harvest Festival

Reflections from the Roastery at Warriors Son Coffee Co.

Preparing for the National Apple Harvest Festival is quite a feat for this artisan coffee roaster!

For us, the preparation begins weeks before the festival opens. There's coffee to roast, supplies to gather, equipment to prepare, and a whole lot of planning to make sure we have enough freshly roasted coffee to carry us through the event.

But you know something? As much work as it takes, I always look forward to attending this particular festival.

And there's a reason for that.

A Place That Has Always Held a Special Place in My Heart

You see, attending the Apple Harvest Festival takes me back to a time many years ago when I lived and worked in Adams County, Pennsylvania.

Shortly after graduating from high school in Lancaster County, I began working at Musselman's, the local apple processing facility.

There was something about that part of Pennsylvania that captured my heart.

The beautiful apple orchards, rolling green hillsides, mountains in the distance, and those quaint, quiet villages all seemed to call out to me.

I couldn't quite explain what it was that drew me to this area, but something inside me wanted to answer that call.

And so I did.

Looking back on those early years, I certainly never imagined that one day I would own an artisan coffee-roasting company.

But I did have a dream.

I always wanted to own a business of my own. I didn't necessarily know what that business would be, but I knew that whatever I chose to do, I wanted to be the very best I could be at it.

Isn't it interesting how life unfolds?

Returning With a Different Purpose

All these years later, I now have the privilege of returning to this beautiful countryside, not as a young man working at the local apple processing facility, but as the owner of Warriors Son Coffee Co.

And what a wonderful feeling that is!

Here I am, sharing my dream of coffee with the same kind of warm and wonderful folks I once lived and worked among.

I've attended the Apple Harvest Festival for many years, but being here as a local artisan coffee roaster makes the experience all the more meaningful.

As we set up our booth and began introducing folks to our different coffees, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement.

Not just about the coffee, mind you, but about the people we would meet and the conversations we would share.

And believe me, there were plenty of conversations!

Coffee Is a Community

As I sit here reflecting on the festival, I think about the many people who stopped by our booth. It certainly seemed like thousands, and perhaps it was!

Some came for a warm cup of coffee. Others were curious about our different roasts and the flavors they might discover. Many simply stopped to sample something new or share a few moments in conversation.

And that's when something I've believed for a long time became even more meaningful to me.

I truly believe that coffee is a community.

It's more than just something we drink.

Coffee is a state of mind, a gathering place, and a connecting point that can make complete strangers feel like part of one warm and welcoming family.

I watched it happen over and over again throughout the festival.

People sharing their thoughts, telling stories, recalling memories, and discovering the different flavors in our coffees.

The conversations seemed to flow just as naturally as the coffee we were pouring.

And I absolutely loved it!

There is something wonderfully simple about a warm cup of coffee and a good conversation.

In a world that sometimes seems to move too quickly, these little moments remind us of how much we have in common and how important it is to take the time to connect with one another.

Coming Full Circle

When I think back on this year's Apple Harvest Festival, I won't just remember the many cups of coffee we served or the long hours of preparation.

I'll remember the people.

I'll remember the smiles, the laughter, the stories, and the connections.

And I'll remember that young man who once found himself drawn to the beautiful orchards and hillsides of Adams County, never imagining that one day he would return with a coffee company of his own.

Life certainly has an interesting way of bringing us full circle.

To everyone who stopped by to visit with us, sample our coffees, or simply share a conversation, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

You made this year's Apple Harvest Festival something truly special.

And you reminded me once again why I love what I do.

I can't help but wonder where the next warm cup of coffee and a good conversation might take us!

Until we meet again, may your coffee be warm, your conversations meaningful, and your days filled with good company.
